Our Early Childhood programs provide gentle beginnings for children and their families, creating a strong foundation for lifelong learning. The Power of Play and Imagination

Play is the true work of early childhood. Through imaginative, self-directed play, children develop physical coordination, emotional resilience, social understanding, and appreciation for joyful activity. Simple, natural materials—wooden toys, silks, beeswax, and handcrafted dolls—invite creativity and wonder. Daily rhythms include ample time for both indoor and outdoor play, storytelling, songs, and hands-on activities that nourish the senses and strengthen developing capacities.
Rhythm, Nature, and Community

Each day unfolds with a steady rhythm—one that provides comfort and predictability for the young child. Meals, movement, rest, and seasonal celebrations create a flow that mirrors the natural world and supports healthy development. Our early childhood classrooms offer a rich blend of individual attention and communal experience, allowing each child to be seen and supported while learning the joys of belonging to a group. The Cedarwood community welcomes families into a shared journey, where parenting is supported, childhood is honored, and growth is celebrated.

Pre-Kindergarten

For the Young Child, Gently Stepping Into the Wider World

Our pre-kindergarten classrooms are designed for children who leave the warmth of home to attend school for the first time.

They are met with kindness, simplicity, and a well-rounded experience. The children begin to immerse themselves in the work of childhood, which we believe is play.

Every aspect of our classrooms is intentionally chosen and carefully prepared to meet the developmental needs of the young child. This includes handcrafted dolls, pieces of wood, colorful beeswax for modeling, and toys that encourage wonder, competence, and curiosity.

Children enjoy a variety of hands-on practical activities in a social setting that will develop a sense of competence, skill and community.

Program Details

Our pre-kindergarten program is mixed age, starting at age 3.
We begin our day at 8:30 am, with the option of a 12:30 pm or 3:00 pm release.
We offer extended care for pre-kindergarten from 3:00 to 5:30 pm everyday for students in the 3- or 5-day program.
We also offer school break and summer camps for children 4 and older.

Kindergarten

For the Growing Child, Where Joyful Work Builds Lifelong Learning

The children in our kindergarten classes bake bread, paint, draw, garden, cut vegetables, make soup, and importantly, become stewards of their classrooms where they care and support one another.

The children are invited to live fully in their imagination. Each day allows for ample time to play, both inside and outside.

Children absorb the beginnings of science and develop a love of creativity. Storytelling, puppet plays, poetry, sorting and counting are examples of the pre-literacy and pre-academic activities in the kindergarten.
