4th and 5th Grade Projects 2023

4th Grade Animal Projects with Ms. Nancy Thompson:

There are many student projects for our Cedarwood students to look forward to as they move through our grade school.  In the fourth grade, students study the animal world and its relationship to humans during multiple blocks about Human Beings and Animals.

And every year students enthusiastically take up an animal study on their own.

Each Waldorf grades teacher brings this block in their own way, but every year students enthusiastically take up an animal study of their own.  This animal study may include a written report, drawings and diagrams, fun facts and charts, poetry, and a model of the animal in its wild habitat.  It is a wonderful culmination when students get to share all they learned about their animal with their class and the community.

5th Grade State Projects with Ms. Gia Davis:

In Ms. Davis’ Fifth Grade, students are working independently and with the support of their teachers, parents, and friends to research a state of their choice and prepare a report on it. These reports will include a hand-drawn map of the state showing major cities, geographical features and points of interest as well as bordering states, countries and bodies of water.  Students will write descriptions of the landscapes and climate along with the plants and animals that are found within. Reports also include information about the state’s natural resources, major industries and popular recreational activities. Most importantly, the students aim to include information about the peoples and tribes that inhabited the region long before statehood. While most students choose one of the 50 states, our focus studies for the year is North American Geography and one student has chosen Puerto Rico for their research report. Through this process, the students come to appreciate the varied wonders and gifts of the land through maps, scale models, demonstrations and, perhaps, delicious food. The hope is that the final results are well-organized, informative pieces of writing that give the students a very clear example of expectations for future reports.
