Winter Spiral: Day One

The first evening of our Winter Spiral honors the Mineral Kingdom: the earth, rocks, stones, and the essential minerals and elements that make up our natural environment.

Today we honor the hard journeys we experience, which can be made more graceful by cultivating reverence, forgiveness, joy, and gratitude. We invite you to create a quiet space to facilitate the Winter Spiral experience, and have your apple candle ready to light with Ms. Cecelia!

This evening we have two Winter Spiral stories to share!

The first, “Tatatuck’s Journey to Crystal Mountain,” is best for younger children and our second story, “The Theft of the Stone of Scone,” is told for our middle school students.

Tatatuck’s Journey to Crystal Mountain

By Jakob Streit
Told by Gia Davis

Little Tatatuck is a root-pulling gnome who dreams of working in the crystal caves. But he is small and weak and is told by the head crystal gnome that he must journey over seven mountains to the highest crystal cave on crystal mountain and bring back a crystal from there to qualify to be a crystal gnome. Many have gone, but not many have returned… Tatatuck travels over the seven mountains and meets one adventure after another in his efforts to get to Crystal Mountain. He gathers treasures and friends along the way, faces many hazards, and becomes strong in many ways throughout his journey. Does he make it? You will have to listen to know for sure!

This is a rather long story, and is offered here both in a complete version, or in four separate parts (for briefer listening).

Chiaki Uchiyama has recorded two beautiful songs on the lyre for you to listen to at home — just like we do when walking the Winter Spiral at school!
